Earlobe Repair Surgery
Stretching of the earlobe is not a new tradition. It has been used for centuries especially by African tribes. We occasionally do see patients who want their stretched earlobes repaired, mainly because these patients are planning to enter a professional career.
The earlobe repair procedure is performed comfortably under local anesthesia and is an outpatient procedure to avoid any additional fees such as anesthesia fees. The stretched portion of the earlobe is removed and care is taken to align the two edges to produce a pleasing shape and size to the new earlobe. I implement a special technique to minimize scarring and notching that is noticeable if not reconstructed using a surgeon with experience. Earlobes can be re-pierced 6-8 weeks after the procedure, if so desired by the patient.
The patient must refrain from heavy activity or exercise for one week and avoid any contact sports for 4 weeks. The sutures are typically removed in 7-10 days, depending on the healing process.
The average cost for earlobe repair is $350-$800 per earlobe depending on the complexity. The cost will also vary depending on the region of the country you are located in along with the surgeon’s fees.
