The Mommy Makeover is a combination of cosmetic procedures designed to restore the areas of a woman’s body most affected by pregnancy. Sagging, deflated breasts are lifted to a more youthful position with a breast lift and can be enhanced with a breast augmentation. Excess skin and weakened muscles in the abdomen are repaired with abdominoplasty, and stubborn fat on various areas of the body is removed with liposuction. Each Mommy Makeover procedure is customized for the patient based on her unique needs, which Dr. Jazayeri will evaluate during the initial consultation.
The Mommy Makeover can include breast augmentation, breast lift, liposuction, and/or tummy tuck surgery.
Breast augmentation can increase the size and improve the shape of a woman’s breasts. Many different options are available with this procedure, which allow the patient to have a completely customized look.
Breast lift surgery, also called mastopexy, is a procedure designed to eliminate sagging skin from the breasts and lift them to a more youthful position. Even slight sagging can be corrected with this procedure, and it is often performed at the same time as breast augmentation to achieve both a larger size and a youthful shape.
Liposuction is the procedure many women choose when diet and exercise fail to give them the results they want. The procedure will not remove sagging skin, but it does eliminate fat from some of the most troublesome areas, including the:
Pregnancy almost always causes stretch marks, excess skin, and weakened muscles in the abdomen. Tummy tuck surgery, also called abdominoplasty, is the only procedure that can address all of these concerns at one time. Weakened or separated abdominal muscles are tightened, and excess skin is removed to provide a more slender appearance. Stretch marks are also eliminated if they fall in line with the skin that is removed.
A: General anesthesia is used for breast augmentation and tummy tuck surgery. The other procedures mentioned can be performed under either local or general anesthesia.
A: The Mommy Makeover should not be considered a weight-loss procedure. The best candidates have maintained their weight for several months and are at or near a healthy weight. While some weight will be lost with the liposuction and tummy tuck procedures, the primary goal of both is to contour the body into a firmer, more slender shape.
A: The Mommy Makeover can be a very extensive procedure depending on the number and extent of procedures involved. Patients should plan to be away from work for at least two weeks and abstain from strenuous activity for six to eight weeks. Swelling may take up to a month to completely subside. Following Dr. Jazayeri’s post-operative instructions will help to speed the recovery process and lead to the best results.
A: The cost of a Mommy Makeover varies greatly from patient to patient because it is such an individualized procedure. During your initial consultation, you and Dr. Jazayeri will discuss your goals for the procedure and decide on the options that would best meet your needs. From these evaluations, you will receive an accurate cost estimate.
A: Ideal candidates for the Mommy Makeover are finished having children. Patients can safely become pregnant after a Mommy Makeover, but doing so may reverse their results. Patients should also be finished breastfeeding and wait at least six months after having a child before considering Mommy Makeover surgery.
A: As with most surgical procedures, there will be some pain and discomfort after Mommy Makeover surgery. Compression garments will help to reduce swelling and increase comfort as your body heals. Dr. Jazayeri will prescribe pain medication that will also help keep you comfortable.
